Đến 2018, thuế suất thuế nhập khẩu ô tô nguyên chiếc từ ASEAN về Việt Nam giảm còn 0%. Khi đó, giá xe nhập khẩu sẽ thấp hơn xe lắp ráp trong nước 20%. Vì thế, các đại gia ngoại ô tô vẫn rất khó khăn trong việc ra quyết định tiếp tục ở lại Việt Nam đầu tư hay đóng cửa nhà máy đi buôn ô tô nhập.
